The Friends of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, or FLIME as it has become known, was started in 1974 by Michael Fay and other members of the Eisteddfod Publicity Committee to support the Eisteddfod. As a result of its work, donations have been made to the Eisteddfod’s funds each year, allowing the purchase of equipment ranging from seats to computers, speakers to security cameras, and also supporting the archive project.
Friends have come from all over the world. The Friends have supported the Eisteddfod for over 30 years. Over this time £300,000 has been contributed. This is expected to increase significantly in the future. This increased contribution, it is hoped, will assist groups from poorer parts of the world to stay in Llangollen for this event.
Friends are a Registered Charity, distinct from the Eisteddfod itself. Many members significantly increase the value of their subscription by paying by GIFT AID allowing their tax to be reclaimed.
Subscription rates for the FRIENDS are set at a level so that anyone who is interested may join. These subscription rates are minimum rates and many members generously pay a lot more.
On joining the Friends you will:
- receive a Friends badge
- have priority booking for day sessions and evening concerts from Wednesday to Saturday at a 10% discount
- enjoy exclusive use of the Friends marquee during Eisteddfod week
- receive an invitation to the Friends Open Evening
- be sent regular issues of the newsletter, Limelight

Adults - £16.00 (overseas £20.00)
Joint - £23.00 (overseas £27.00)
Family - £29.00 (overseas £33.00)
Student - £10.00 (overseas £14.00)
£1 discount on membership for payment by direct debit scheme (UK only). Special arrangements for Groups and Schools.
