The multi-award-winning Youth Choir, Ysgol Glanaethwy will headline one of two concerts to be programmed by the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod either side of the new year. As part of their new 'LIMELife' series, Llangollen's organisers will stage one event in Llangollen itself in December and the Glanaethwy concert in Wrexham during January. On 16 December at 6pm at the Royal International Pavilion, 'LIMELife Winter' will bring together over 100 children from five Wrexham and Flintshire Primary Schools to celebrate the joy and peace of the season through song. Each school will present pieces of their own choice and come together to raise the roof in both traditional and new songs. Joining them in performance will be local saxophonist and teacher Caroline Morris. Tickets are available from Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on 01978 862001, priced at £5 (Concessions £3). Mervyn Cousins, the Eisteddfod's Executive Director, says: "This concert will develop to a new level Llangollen's outreach to children and schools; we are now able to work regularly with around 20 different schools each year, and this is an extremely important of the festival's community role." The second of Llangollen's winter concert celebrations; "LIMELife Winter, Too!" - sees Ysgol Glanaethwy in performance on Friday January 22nd at the Catrin Finch Centre, Glyndwr University, Wrexham. Under the direction of Cefin and Rhian Roberts, Glanaethwy have been winners at Llangollen on several occasions and, following on from Llangollen now have a further reputation after their success in the BBC's 'Last Choir Standing' - when they came second only to all-male choir Only Men Aloud. With local singer, Clare Phillips, another Eisteddfod prizewinner and favourite in support, these exciting and enthusiastic performers promise a wonderful evening comprising a wide repertoire of their favourites songs and choral pieces. Tickets are available from Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on 01978 862001 and are priced at £15 (Concessions £12). Ticket numbers are restricted for this event, and early booking is strongly advised. The 'LIMELife' programme is supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. Eisteddfod Fund-Raising Manager, Christine Dukes, is excited by the opportunities given to the Eisteddfod from the funding received from the Foundation; "This has enabled Llangollen to offer 'out of season' events for the first time, allowing new supporters to experience a flavour of the Eisteddfod", she says. Further 'LIMELife' events are planned for the future, including an exciting day of musical theatre workshops for secondary schools and young people in March, before the annual Llangollen festival itself in July 2010.
