2010 Syllabus Foreword PDF Print E-mail

Welcome to the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod Syllabus for 2010

We are always looking to develop the Eisteddfod and keep it fresh.  This Syllabus, therefore, brings some changes to our portfolio of competitions.  The overall number of competitions has also been reduced (to 24 in total), with some of the Folk and Celtic categories merging together to allow competitors greater flexibility in their programmes and performances. Specific Celtic prizes are maintained, recognising both the Eisteddfod's role in encouraging further development and research into Celtic music and the growing internationalism of it.

Please also note that there have been some changes in age ranges and maximum numbers in individual competitions.

All the information needed to make applications in any competition is included in this booklet.  Please read it carefully noting closing dates for applications (which are different for groups and soloists), repertoire requirements and other important details.  Please pay particular attention to changes to the rules for submission of recordings, which have been made to ensure fairness to all applicants.  We are, of course, looking first and foremost for artistic quality in our selection procedure.  Inevitably - and regrettably - we are unable to accept all groups and soloists who apply, as our stage-time is limited; but we will also endeavour to include as many countries and regions as possible in each Eisteddfod.  Should you have any queries at all regarding the application procedure, please do not hesitate to contact the Eisteddfod Office.

Finally, I am sure that the syllabus, the details of which are also on the website at www.llangollen2010.co.uk, will play its part in producing yet another exciting and colourful event, in the proud tradition of the Eisteddfod's motto:

 "Byd gwyn fydd byd a gano;
Gwaraidd fydd ei gerddi fo
"

"Blessed is a world that sings;
Gentle are its songs
"

We hope to see you in Llangollen soon!
